"Why They Were Frightened:  Northern Virginia 1859-1860 in the Wake of John Brown's Raid"

John Brown is often minimized as to his impact when considering the advent of the Civil War though inevitably mentioned.  To understand why Virginia seceded, you must understand the panic of '59 that followed the Harpers Ferry Raid.  It was a fearful and uneasy time.   Richard T. "Rich" Gillespie, Historian Emeritus of the Mosby Heritage Area Association, will present this compelling topic.

FREE admission.   Light Refreshments served.  (703) 591-0560
