Fairfax Resolution 2017: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
In April, implement the three Rs: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
- Reduce the amount of refuse you produce: bring reusable bags to the store, for example, and look for products with less packaging.
- Reuse items: buy used; maintain products to extend their usefulness; and rent or share items used less frequently (tools, for example). Donate small household and personal items to Goodwill via a drop box in the Recycling Center at the Property Yard, 3410 Pickett Road.
- Recycle as much as you can, wherever you go. The Recycling Center is accessible all day, every day for household recyclables. Not sure what you can put in your recycling bin? Check out the Solid Waste Services Guide.

January: Discover the City
Resolve to take the CUE Bus to your favorite city destination: a shop or restaurant, maybe even a city park for a winter walk. CUE Bus runs in nearly all weather throughout the city, to the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metrorail Station, and to George Mason University.
February: Subscribe to Fairfax City Alert
Subscribe to Fairfax City Alert to stay abreast of city news, events, and services. This is particularly helpful during an emergency. Current subscribers may wish to review their subscription to make sure they have chosen the topics of interest. Remember: there are separate traffic alert categories for “scheduled” and “unscheduled” events.
March: Build an Emergency Kit
Prepare for emergencies by building an emergency kit to take care of yourself and your household (including pets) for 72 hours. Get suggestions from the Office of Emergency Management: visit the Preparedness Training Information page on the city website or call 703-385-4856.
