Station 33 Set for Replacement
Fire Station 33 will be razed and rebuilt on the existing site to provide modern amenities for the new century.
A recent feasibility study found the design of the existing building at 10101 Fairfax Boulevard (pictured, above), in operation since 1979, does not meet the current needs of the department.
The facility lacks space for adequate equipment storage and room for ready-reserve apparatus, which currently is housed off-site.
A new facility would increase the operational readiness of the fire department, improve staff safety and health conditions, and improve quality of life for staff.
The new facility, expected to cost about $9.6 million, will be under construction for about 18 months. Construction could begin as early as summer 2019. During construction, crews would operate out of the Fire Department Training Center, 9650 Colonial Avenue.
