Fire Department Receives SAFER Grant
The City of Fairfax Fire Department has been awarded a SAFER grant for $438,392 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for volunteer firefighter recruitment and retention. Information: 703-385-7940.
The grant covers the salary and fringe benefits for a civilian volunteer recruitment coordinator, printing and marketing materials, and 20 sets of personnel protective equipment for the new firefighters.
The grant performance period is for four years, with the goal of adding 20 volunteer firefighters over the performance period.
