Fairfax City Ranked Among 10 Best Places to Live By 24/7 Wall Street

Post Date:02/14/2018

When it comes to the best places to live in the United States, Fairfax City meets the gold standard for quality of life, according to a new ranking by 24/7 Wall Street. In fact, it’s one of the few cities on the list, which ranked counties from coast to coast. Fairfax City ranked 10th out of 25 jurisdictions on the list.

“To anyone who lives here, it’s no secret that this city is a special place,” said Fairfax City Mayor David L. Meyer. “It’s a city that thrives because of its livability and sense of community, with scores of great businesses, exceptional city schools, amazing parks, a wide range of housing options, and essential city services.”

24/7 Wall Street’s criteria for its rankings mirrored that of the United Nations’ Human Development Index: life expectancy, poverty, and educational attainment. The median household income for the city is $104,065 — among the highest in the country.

Other vital data for Fairfax City include:

  • 83.7-year life expectancy
  • 3 percent unemployment rate
  • 6 percent increase in population during the past five years.

The data used by 24/7 Wall Street was culled from 2012-16 averages from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey.

Other local jurisdictions, including Loudoun and Arlington counties, also made the list. Top national communities include: Pitkin County, Colo.; Marin County, Calif.; Somerset County, N.J.; and Carver County, Minn.

“We’re extremely proud of the city’s accomplishments, and, given the foundation for livability and community we already have in place, we know people will continue to choose Fairfax City to live and do business,” Meyer said.
