Current leaf collection status:

The City of Fairfax Public Works Department will provide curbside leaf collection on Tuesdays in April:

  • April 7
  • April 14
  • April 21
  • April 28

Please have leaves raked to the curb by 7 am on collection day.

During the month of April, no bagged leaves will be collected.

Please call 703-385-LEAF (5323) for more information.

Here are some suggestions:
  • Just rake leaves to the curb for collection. Do not bag them.
  • Keep rocks, tree branches and large sticks out of leaf piles. Large, heavy items in leaf piles can damage equipment, injure leaf collection workers and delay service.
The city assigns a crew to each of the six sections of the city. The crew continues to work through their assigned section throughout the leaf season, attempting to provide service about once every two weeks. Please note that during heavy leaf fall and inclement weather, there is the possibility of delays in service.

Remember, leaves are collected loose at the curb only during these designated times. At all other times of the year, leaves must be placed at the curb on regular trash days in trash cans or yard waste bags. Please keep all leaves and other yard waste separate from trash at the curb.

Avoid trashing leaves completely and consider mulching your leaves for your yard. Homemade mulch is a cheap and easy alternative to store-bought mulch, and is 100 percent organic. For information, call 703-385-LEAF.
