Citizens are required to register with the Commissioner of the Revenue’s Office within 60 days of a vehicle relocating to the city. Vehicles registered after 60 days are subject to a penalty of 10 percent of the tax.

Citizens also must notify the Commissioner’s Office within 60 days of any changes in the location or status of their personal property.

The tax rate is set annually by the City Council. The Commissioner of the Revenue’s Office annually sends out personal property return notices, and citizens must respond only if there has been a change in the location or status of the personal property. Personal property taxes are prorated.
