New Portal Presents Options to Connect, Engage and Participate
The City of Fairfax has updated its news and information landing page to make it easier for residents to find information, connect with staff, engage elected leadership, and participate in conversations about their communities.
The city has several options for residents to engage elected leaders, stay informed about plans and decisions being discussed, and to provide feedback. The new one-stop news and information page features a menu of all the ways in which people can engage with the city. Residents can select notifications about topics that are important to them, follow social media accounts for specific departments, and read or watch stories about their evolving city.
Each item in the list includes a graphic, an explanation, and appropriate hyperlinks. The menu includes links to the city’s:
- News page
- Social media accounts
- Cityscene newsletter
- City Alerts
- Connect2FairfaxCity civic engagement tool
- Videos of city meetings archived with agenda items
- Smart city apps for reporting and tracking CUE buses
- Phone services and
- E-newsletters delivered via Constant Contact.
People no longer receive information in homogeneous ways, which presents challenges to local governments looking to reach residents; however, the bevy of communication platforms also creates opportunities for richer engagement. The City of Fairfax’s goal is to reach residents wherever they are.
