Personal Property Taxes, Vehicle Decal Payments Due October 7
Bills for personal property and motor vehicle license tax are due by October 7. Late payments will incur a 10 percent penalty plus interest.
To avoid long lines and delays, promptly check the bill and report any changes to the Commissioner of the Revenue at 703-385-7880.
No changes? Consider paying by check via mail or City Hall drop-boxes.
Bills may be paid in person, by mail or online. If paying in person, please bring the entire bill.
Offices of the Treasurer and the Commissioner of the Revenue in City Hall are open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
The 2019 personal property tax rate is $4.13 per $100 of assessed value. The Commonwealth will pay 46.5 percent of the tax for the first $20,000 of a personal use vehicle assessed value. The tax reduction appears on tax bills as a credit.
Both the personal property and the motor vehicle license tax must be paid to receive the city decal (pictured, above).
Decals will be mailed after October 17 and decal enforcement begins November 16. Decals must be displayed on vehicles garaged in the city.
(Please note: decals must be placed on the driver-side of the windshield; please refer to the information included with your personal property tax bill. Click on the image below to download PDF.)
