Residents of the City of Fairfax can now sign up to receive electronic messages twice a year reminding them when it is time to change their smoke detector batteries. The messages are sent through the City's Alert System and timed to coincide with changes made for Daylight Saving Time. Subscribers may elect to receive their messages either by email or via text-enabled cellular telephones and pagers.
To subscribe to this service, please visit Fairfax City Alert and click on "Sign Up" Provide the required information and click on the "Smoke Detector Reminders" information category. Numerous other information categories also are available through Fairfax City Alert including "Fire Safety Message of the Month."
