Picnic pavilions are available for public use and enjoyment year-round at numerous Fairfax City parks and are available on a first come, first served basis unless a permitted reservation is scheduled at the time.

Reservations may be placed on a first come, first served basis due to limited availability, and require payment of all applicable rental fees at the time of reservation in order to secure a permit. Please Note: Reservations cannot be placed over the phone.

Rentals of park picnic pavilions include private, permitted use of:

  • Pavilion
  • Picnic tables located within pavilion Relocation or removal of picnic tables prohibited
  • Nearest outdoor park grill Charcoal and supplies not provided; personal grills prohibited per City Code
  • Nearest trash receptacle Trash too large to fit inside the receptacles provided is the responsibility of the renter for removal and proper disposal

Electricity is not available at park pavilions at this time.

Please Note: Due to the requirement of applicant acknowledgment and acceptance to adhere to all park rules and regulations included in the application process, our staff is unable to reserve pavilions over the phone. Fee payments, however, may be transacted over the phone, provided that a Charge Authorization form has been submitted to grant permission for a transaction to take place using the approved and authorized credit or debit card of the payer.

Refund and Cancellation Policies

Cancellation and refund options are dependent on the amount of time between the notice of intent to cancel or reschedule provided and the date of the rental. Notice must be provided in advance in order to be considered.

Please email notices of intent to cancel or reschedule pavilion rental permits to parksrec@fairfaxva.gov.

Please Note: Due to the picnic pavilions being sheltered outdoor facilities, we understand poor weather can affect their use, however we will not grant refunds based on non-severe weather conditions and rain.

Available Options
  • Reschedule - Provide notice 1 or more days (24 hours or more) in advance to reschedule rental for a later date (subject to availability).

  • Cancel and Obtain Credit - Provide notice 1 or more days (24 hours or more) in advance to cancel a permit and obtain credit - equivalent to the permit fees paid - on account in ActiveNet for future use towards Fairfax City Parks and Recreation camps, classes, event registrations, programs or rentals.

  • Cancel and Obtain Refund - Provide notice 2 or more weeks (14 days or more) in advance to cancel a permit and obtain a refund - equivalent to the permit fees paid - by either check or by refund back to the card used in the original transaction (available only to customers who paid using a credit or debit card).
Requirements for Large Groups (100+) or Special Add-Ons
Large Groups (100+)

Picnic pavilion rentals expecting attendance of 100 or more persons are considered to be large groups and require an additional completed Special Event application.

Failure to complete and provide a Special Event application may result in denial of a permit and future ability to rent Fairfax City recreational facilities.

Special Add-Ons

Picnic pavilion rentals may include requests for special add-ons (personally owned or hired) - limited to one per pavilion rental - provided that any and all requirements are submitted and that no Park Rules or City Code ordinances are violated. Approved requests for special add-ons are meant for private use by the renting party only and are not to be open to the public.

Failure to provide the requirements may result in denial of a permit and future ability to rent Fairfax City recreational facilities.

  • Bounce Houses or Moon Bounces - Provide an original Certificate of Liability Insurance listing the City of Fairfax for at least the duration of the pavilion rental. Equipment to operate and secure inflatable amusement devices is the sole responsibility of the applicant and/or device provider.

If use of a park athletic field is required for the addition of a bounce house or moon bounce, an Athletic Field/Gymnasium Use permit will be required and subject to approval by the Athletics Division.
