54th Annual Independence Day Celebration

 july 4 wave parade image

Due to COVID-19 we are celebrating Independence Day a bit different this year with a Hometown Wave Parade!

Wear your RED, WHITE, and BLUE and wave your flags as the Hometown Wave Parade makes its way through the neighborhoods of the City of Fairfax on Saturday - July 4 beginning at 5:00 pm. Some of our local Super Heroes as well as Captain America, Black Panther, Spiderman, and Wonder Woman will be appearing; hear the roar of the motorcycles of the Patriot Harley-Owners Group and the engines of the planes from the Flying Circus, along with some other patriotic surprises.

Uncle Sam on stilts (a usual parade participant) will be in Mosby Woods neighborhood, including Cambridge Station town-houses, on July 4th between 10:00 AM and 12:00 noon.

  • The parade will step off from the City Hall with the traditional flyover of the parade route by the Flying Circus Airshow.
  • The parade – with 10 entries – will visit all six city precincts (but not all streets) and will end at City Hall.
  • A Hometown Wave Parade Tracker will be active at 5 p.m. on July 4 on this website.
Please practice social distancing guidelines - and refrain from standing in the street or sitting on the street curbs. We can’t wait to see everyone!

A Hometown Celebration - Canceled

June 28th, 5:00 pm at Veterans Amphitheater

Join us as we kick-off “A Hometown Celebration” on Sunday, June 28 at 5:00 pm at the Veterans Amphitheater (located on the grounds of City Hall). There will be games, food trucks (from Fairfax City businesses) and a concert by the award-winning City of Fairfax Band beginning at 7:00 pm.  We hope you will join us at this inaugural event. In case of rain the event will be relocated to the Stacy C. Sherwood Community Center; food venders will also be on-site.

Commemorative 4th of July T-Shirts for Sale

The Independence Day Celebration Committee (IDCC) is pleased to announce that we will be selling our commemorative July 4th t-shirts on the steps of City Hall on Saturday, June 13 and Saturday, June 20 from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon. While social distancing, we ask that you drive up the circular drive in front of City Hall where IDCC members will be taking your order and placing it inside your vehicle ... we ask that you please do not get out of your vehicle. Sales will happen rain or shine.

The theme "There's No Place Like Home" was picked in the fall of 2019 - we had no idea how important that theme would be when it was chosen.

Shirts are available in red, white and blue at a cost of $5/youth (sizes XSmall - Large; unfortunately, we have no youth shirts in white); $10/adult (sizes Small - XXXLarge; we have a limited inventory of white shirts); and while supplies last, we will have the baseball hat for $10. Cash or Checks (made payable to IDCC).
