Project Background

Due to concerns about current traffic speeds and safety conditions on University Drive between Kenmore Drive and Fairfax Blvd, as well as the potential impact of added vehicles due to the new Northfax East/University Drive Extension, the University Drive neighborhood requested that the City evaluate traffic calming and pedestrian safety improvements for the street.  Specifically, the neighborhood expressed concerns about the speed of traffic through the neighborhood, parked cars being hit by passing cars, and the need for safer pedestrian crossings along the street.  The City developed a menu of potential traffic calming and pedestrian safety measures that could be implemented on the street. The City hosted a public input meeting and reached out to residents via social media and email to solicit their opinions about the options.

Project Schedule:

  • Community Meeting: May 21, 2018
  • City Council Work Session: September 25, 2018
  • Anticipated construction start Fall 2020
