Urban Forest Master Plan

Provide Your Feedback (Engage)

The city is developing its first-ever Urban Forest Master Plan, a plan that will guide management of Fairfax’s urban forest over the next 20 years. The urban forest encompasses all trees, vegetation, and associated ecosystems within the city, including those on public and private land.

Our fourth and final community meeting, scheduled for October 23, 2025, will provide the public with an opportunity to offer specific feedback on the Urban Forest Master Plan's contents before the final draft is presented to City Council for consideration of adoption in January 2026. The community meeting will have a virtual attendance option through Zoom.

Feedback on the draft Urban Forest Master Plan can also be provided during the public comment period from October 10 to October 29 on the Engage page.

Project background

The Urban Forest Master Plan project is currently in its final phase of development. Phase 1 was completed in February 2025 and included research, analysis, and community engagement to develop a vision for urban forestry in the City of Fairfax. It included numerous tabling events, steering committee meetings, a public survey, and two public meetings.

Phase 2 began in February 2025 and has focused on the development and review of draft documents with specific recommendations, goals, definitions, and strategies for urban forest management. The contents of the drafts are based on public input and guidance from city staff, boards and commissions, and City Council.
