Summer Camps

The Fairfax City Parks and Recreation Department strives to provide safe, fun, and affordable camp programs for your children!

Our summer camps offer your kids the opportunity of a lifetime to engage in safe and enjoyable activities while forming positive relationships with other campers and staff. We strive to provide programs that will allow children to grow and develop intellectually, physically, culturally, and socially. Campers will have the benefit of learning from role models while spending quality time with their friends in a great environment.

  • 2025 summer camps are now open for registration
  • Registration for each camp closes at 12:00 p.m. on the Thursday before the camp begins

2025 General Information: Payments, Cancellations, Refunds, Etc.

Payments

Once you are registered for a camp program, you may choose a payment plan or pay in full. If you select to use a payment plan, it is required to set up the automatic payment plan with a credit card to be held on file.

  • A deposit of $100 for traditional camps or $50 per specialty camp will be due at the time of enrollment of camps.
  • Payments will be charged on April 1, May 1, and June 1. Staff reserve the right to remove your child from the camp program for any outstanding payments.

Cancellation, Refunds, and Transfers

To request a refund, a Refund Request Form must be completed and emailed to camps@fairfaxva.gov. Find a copy of the Refund Request Form(PDF, 154KB).

  • Before May 1st: If you submit your Refund Request Form prior to May 1st, you will be issued a full refund.
  • May 2nd - June 1st: Refund Requests submitted after May 1st but before June 1st will be issued a full refund minus your deposit.
  • No refunds will be given after June 1, 2025.

Please review your summer plans to ensure that if you need to cancel out of a camp, you have submitted your Refund Request Form by June 1st. The only exception to this policy is a documented illness or family emergency.

  • During camp: Refunds will not be issued for any missed program days within a camp’s scheduled sessions due to changed work or vacation schedules, sick days, or other non-emergency reasons, or if a camper is sent home early or suspended from attending camp in accordance with the Parent Handbook.
    • Please note: If a camper cannot finish camp once it begins due to a medical condition, a doctor’s note is required within 24 hours for a pro-rated refund. Requests received after the camp session ends will not be granted.
  • Transfers: Due to program minimums, transfers must be requested at least 14 days prior to the first day of the camp session from which you are withdrawing. Multiple transfers may be subject to a $25 processing fee.

Fairfax City reserves the right to cancel a camp if we believe it is in the best interest of the participant’s health and safety. All individuals registered for a canceled camp program will receive a full refund of the registration fee.

Discounts

Discounts must be applied at the time of registration. No discounts will be applied after registration. You will be prompted to enter your code during the checkout process.

  • Full Payment Discount: A $50 discount is available to anyone who pays in full at the time of registration for full summer traditional day camp registrations. Code: FULL
  • Sibling Discount: A sibling discount will be applied for families registering for traditional camps with two or more children in the same household. A discount of $50 off each child in a family of two or more. Qualifiers: A sibling is categorized as ‘one of two or more individuals having one or both parents in common.’ Code: SIBLING

Waitlists

Traditional Day Camps: We will maintain a waitlist on a first-come, first-served basis. If a spot opens up, the Parks and Recreation staff will contact the waitlist in order to fill the spot.

Specialty Camps: From March 5 to May 31, any open spots will be released each Thursday at 12 noon and will remain open until filled. Waitlists for specialty camps will begin starting June 1.

Financial Assistance

We strive to provide access to all programs regardless of financial status. Financial assistance is available for qualified Fairfax City residents only. Tax forms and/or proof of income are required. Financial aid will be based on a sliding scale. If you wish to apply for financial assistance, please contact us to make an appointment. Re-application is required every year.

The deadline for financial assistance for the camp program is June 1.

Emergency Contact/Medical Forms

Once registered, all parents or guardians must complete a health profile on campdoc.com for their camper in order to attend camp. This includes all emergency contacts, health history, pickup authorizations, and other important information for camp staff to keep your child as safe as possible. If your child attended camp previously, you will need to go in and update or approve previous information.

Children will not be permitted to attend camp without a completed profile.

Exemption Statement City of Fairfax Camp Programs

The City of Fairfax’s recreation programs, including our camps and youth activities, are exempt from licensure under Section 22.1-289.030 B.6 of the Code of Virginia. Our programs fall under the exemption category for recreational activities offered by local governments, staffed by local government employees, and attended by school-age children.

While our programs are not licensed child care, the City of Fairfax ensures that all recreation programs adhere to strict safety and supervisory standards established by the local government. We are committed to providing a safe, engaging, and enriching environment for all participants.

Little School Summer Camp (3yrs - Rising K)

2025 Little School Summer Camp

Preschoolers and rising kindergartners can enjoy the summer at the Little School Summer Camp! This camp will provide children with age-appropriate activities that will include arts and crafts, entertainers, games, and water play (there are no swimming-pool activities). Children will develop important social skills while playing with their friends and leaders in a fun and safe environment. The camp will be broken up into groups based on age, and campers will remain with those children throughout the summer.

Staff Ratio: 1:6

Ages: 3-5 years (Preschool - Rising Kindergarten)

Requirements for Little School Camp

The Little School Summer Camp is a Virginia state-licensed preschool program. Requirements for all Little School Summer Camp participants:

  • Campdoc.com online profile 100% complete
  • Proof of age verification: birth certificate or current passport information on file
  • VA State School Entrance Health Form – must be signed by the doctor (This includes a physical examination within 12 months prior to starting the camp program and immunization records dated within one year of attendance)

An open house will be held in June for all Little School Camp families where paperwork will be turned in.

If the paperwork is not received, the Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to withdraw participants from the program. Children will not be allowed to attend camp without all paperwork completed and submitted to staff.

Providence Camp (Rising 1st - 4th Grade)

Campers, join your friends this summer for a fun-filled time this summer! Activities will include sports, games, arts and crafts, special events, theme days, field trips, and so much more!

Children will enjoy time playing with their friends and staff while developing new skills and abilities. The camp will be broken up into groups based on age and campers will remain with those campers throughout the summer.
