Mayor and Council Members

The City of Fairfax has a council/manager form of government. The mayor and six councilmembers are elected every two years on an at-large, non-partisan basis. The current term expires 12/31/2026.

- ProfileCatherine S. Read is serving her second term as Mayor.
A city resident since 2000 in the Daniels Run Woods, Providence Square, and Fairchester Woods neighborhoods, she has most recently worked with local nonprofits on legislative advocacy and messaging, and continues to occasionally host shows for Fairfax Public Access.
- ProfileBilly M. Bates is serving his second term on City Council.
He has represented the city as an alternate member for the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments Region Forward Coalition and MWCOG Human Services Policy Committee.
The lifelong city resident received his bachelor's degree in physics from Mason and is pursuing a masters' degree in the same field.
- ProfileAnthony T. Amos is serving his first term on the City Council.
He was the city representative on the Fairfax Campus and Community Advisory Board in 2024.
Amos currently works as a legislative and community outreach aide for the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, handling constituent services cases relating to land use, permits, taxes, environment, stormwater, and utilities.
- ProfileStacy R. Hall is serving her first term on the City Council.
A city resident since 2011, she served on the City of Fairfax School Board from 2023-24, during which time she represented the school board on the city’s Environmental Sustainability Committee.
The longtime Providence Elementary School PTA member served as its president and its vice president of membership.
- ProfileStacey D. Hardy-Chandler is serving her first term on City Council.
She served on the city’s Commission for Women for five years, including a year as secretary.
A city resident for 11 years, she is currently the CEO of the Association of Social Work Boards, a nonprofit serving the social work regulatory community in the U.S. and Canada.
- ProfileRachel M. McQuillen is serving her first term on City Council.
The 14-year city resident served on the City of Fairfax School Board from 2023-24, during which time she represented the school board on the city’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.
She served as the Providence Elementary School PTA secretary and the Providence Elementary School PTA spirit wear chair.
- ProfileThomas D. Peterson is serving his first term on City Council.
Peterson, who has lived in the city since 2002, served as chair of Fairfax City’s Environmental Sustainability Committee from 2022-24.
He is founder, president, and CEO of the Center for Climate Strategies, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization.
