Tax and Rent Relief Program
Programs for Seniors, Residents with Disabilities
By appointment only. No walk-ins accepted.
The city provides real estate tax relief and rent relief on a year-to-year basis to residents who are age 65 and older and for persons with disabilities. Applications are sent out in February and must be completed and returned to the Finance Department no later than April 15 of that year. In order to qualify, the net worth of applicants and their families should be no greater than $440,000, excluding the applicant’s home and one acre of land. Combined gross family income may not exceed $90,000.
First-time applications for totally and permanently disabled individuals can be submitted at any time with no deadline.
Applicants are required to submit copies of all income statements (i.e., Social Security, wages, interest earned, dividends, etc.), Federal Income Tax Returns (all schedules and attachments), Financial Account Statements (i.e., investments, retirement, savings, checking, certificates of deposit), and property value (real estate, vehicles, boats, etc.) as of December 31 from all those living in the household. All information on the application is confidential and not open to public inspection.
Real Estate Tax Relief is based on a sliding scale.

- Net Worth: $440,000
- Tax Relief Income: Up to $90,000
- From $0 - 75,000: 100% Exemption
- From $75,001 - 80,000: 75% Exemption
- From $80,001 - 85,000: 50% Exemption
- From $85,001 - 90,000: 25% Exemption
- Rent Relief Income: $40,000
