The City of Fairfax is celebrating “Get There Differently” throughout the entire month of September, including Car Free Day on September 22, by encouraging residents to try alternatives to driving alone.
“Get There Differently” means trying a different way to get around at least once this month. By reducing our reliance on driving alone, we can help improve the environment and contribute to the safety and livability of our community. Whether it’s riding the CUE Bus, taking Metro, biking, walking to meet friends, or joining a carpool, we’re inviting you to try something new!
Challenge yourself to try "Getting There Differently" for one or more of your trips in September! Find resources below for different transportation options in the city and the region.
The CUE Bus is free to ride every day, for everyone and to every CUE stop!
There are several resources to help you get around on CUE:
Don’t have a bike? No problem! Check out a Capital Bikeshare bike or e-bike and explore Fairfax City on two wheels.
Try a 10-minute ride from Fairfax Circle to Vienna Metro, cruise to Old Town for dinner, or roll along one of the city's many bike trails.
Find your nearest station on the Capital Bikeshare system map.
Bird and Lime provide shared e-scooters in the city and on the George Mason University Fairfax campus. E-scooters are a convenient option for short trips. Download the Bird or Lime app to get started.
Invite a friend or family member and scoot to one of Fairfax's parks and trails—or that restaurant you've been meaning to try.
Remember to wear a helmet, ride safely, and park correctly. Find more tips and information about the city's program here.
Leave your car at home and explore these great alternatives:
Consider registering for Guaranteed Ride Home, a free program that provides emergency transportation for commuters who use car-free options.
