The Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the City of Fairfax and the Fairfax Forward Foundation, proudly announces the launch of "Civic Connections: Understanding Fairfax City," a new civic engagement program designed to educate and empower community members.

Set to begin Sept. 10, 2025, this free, seven-week series offers a behind-the-scenes look into the inner workings of Fairfax City government, services, and community initiatives. Open to both residents and local business owners, the program promotes transparency, builds connections, and encourages active civic participation.

“This initiative is all about connection — connecting people to their local government, to their neighbors, and to opportunities for impact,” said Jennifer Rose, Executive Director of the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce. “We’re excited to help develop a new generation of engaged citizens and community ambassadors.”

Each week, participants will meet in different locations across the city to explore key topics such as budgeting, economic development, public safety, education, transportation, and more. Interactive activities like role-playing, facility tours, and hands-on simulations are built into every session to ensure dynamic learning experiences.

Space is limited to 35 participants to maintain an interactive environment. Registration is now open and required to attend. There is no cost to participate thanks to generous support from the City of Fairfax, the Fairfax Forward Foundation, and the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce.

“Civic Connections is an excellent way for residents to learn how the city works, from why decisions are made to who’s making them,” said City Manager Bryan Foster. “We appreciate the partnership with the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce and the Fairfax Forward Foundation for helping us deliver this program. Our team looks forward to participating in the engagement program and showing some ‘behind the scenes’ as to what it takes to build and sustain a great community.”
