How to Vote by Mail

An application is required to vote by mail. Apply online using the Citizen Portal or submit a physical application in person or by mail to:

To receive a party primary ballot: Check the party designation box on your application. Under Virginia law, you may only select one party at a time.

How to Return Your Ballot

You have three options:

• By mail — Use the pre-paid return envelope included with your ballot.
• Drop box — Drop it off at the ballot drop box in front of the City Hall Atrium entrance on George Mason Blvd.
• In person — Return it to the Office of Elections or to any City of Fairfax polling location on Election Day.

How to Vote Early in Person

Early voting begins 46 days before every scheduled election. If the 46^thday falls on a Holiday, early voting will begin 47 days before election day. Early voting takes place at the following location:

Enter through the Atrium entrance and you will be directed to the voting room. Please note:

• No appointment is needed to vote early.
• Curbside voting is available throughout the early voting period and on Election Day.
• Please bring an acceptable form of ID.

Already Requested a By-Mail Ballot?

If you prefer to vote in person instead, bring your unvoted by-mail ballot with you to return to election officers when you come in during Early Voting or at your designated polling location on Election Day.

If you do not return your unvoted ballot, you may be offered a provisional ballot.
