How Snow Removal Works
The city clears all public streets within city limits, including U.S. and Virginia routes. Plows and chemical spreaders operate 24/7 until all streets are safe.
City crews pre-treat roads as appropriate, when possible. Plowing begins after three or more inches of accumulation.
Plowing priority:
- Primary routes are cleared first for emergency vehicle access.
- Once snowfall tapers off, crews move to subdivision streets.
- The plowing order rotates each storm so the same neighborhoods aren't always last.
