The City of Fairfax is installing a network of Capital Bikeshare stations between George Mason University and Fairfax Circle to provide more transportation options and to connect to the regional network. Bikeshare is a goal in the city's 2035 Comprehensive Plan and in the bicycle master plan, Bike Fairfax City, adopted in 2021. Bikeshare opportunities, costs and benefits were also evaluated in the 2019 Fairfax City-Mason-Vienna Bikeshare Feasibility Study, and potential areas for bikeshare were identified. The city is continuing to coordinate system planning efforts with George Mason University and Fairfax County to ensure the city's network of stations facilitates connections to the larger regional Capital Bikeshare network.
The city has identified 13 feasible station locations in the city. The proposed stations are distributed throughout the Mason to Metro corridor, including locations near George Mason Blvd and University Dr, Old Town Fairfax, Old Lee Hwy, and Fairfax Circle. A proposed station map and draft system plans are available for download below.
