Project Description
The Blenheim Boulevard Multimodal Improvements project is the reconstruction of Blenheim Boulevard between Layton Hall Drive and Ridge Avenue to include sidewalks on both sides of the roadway, a two-way cycle track on the north side, and upgraded bus stops and shelters throughout the project area. The number of roadway lanes will stay the same, but additional turn lanes have been added in a few locations.

Project Status
The project is currently awaiting a construction contract award to be approved by City Council. The City Council has previously voted on the major design features of the project and the project team refined the plans. As part of the project refinement, the city is explored how to create a meaningful user experience on the redesigned corridor. The place making effort(PDF, 3MB) identified the features that residents would like to see as they walk, bike, drive or ride the bus along Blenheim Boulevard.
Preliminary Design Exhibits
Due to the length of the Blenheim Boulevard corridor, the multimodal improvement plans are presented in three sections.
Example renderings of proposed changes at various locations along the corridor are presented below.
Project Background
In 2015, the City completed a conceptual plan for Blenheim Boulevard in the City of Fairfax. The conceptual planning process occurred over approximately six months and included extensive public involvement. This process resulted in a recommended conceptual plan for Blenheim Boulevard. The recommended concept includes separated bicycle lanes, upgraded pedestrian and transit amenities and improved landscaping and buffering. The plan does not recommend additional vehicular travel lanes on Blenheim Boulevard.
The Transportation Division hosted an open house on September 30, 2021 to share the revised recommended plan for Blenheim Boulevard. Residents were invited to view the project designs, discuss ideas with transportation staff, and leave written comments. The exhibits from the open house are listed below in the "Documents for Download" for review.
