Interested in running for local offices? Fairfax City's Mayor, Council, and School Board will be on the 2026 November General Election ballot. Join us at the Local Candidates Info Session to discuss candidates' eligibility and requirements, ballot access documents, and the filing deadline. To qualify as a candidate, you must:
- be a resident of the Commonwealth for one year immediately preceding the election.
- be a resident of the City of Fairfax for one year prior to the date of the election.
- be qualified to vote for and hold the office for which one offers to stand for election.
- comply with all filing requirements.
Campaign Finance
Candidates with an active campaign finance account must file campaign finance reports electronically through COMET in accordance with the campaign finance reporting schedule.

Candidate Bulletins
Prospective candidates for the Jan. 13, 2026, Special Election for the Virginia House of Delegates Eleventh House District vacancy can download a current Candidate Information Bulletin directly from the Virginia Department of Elections website. Physical copies of the ballot access documents are available for pick up at the Office of Elections.
