Officer-Involved Shooting
CITY OF FAIRFAX — On July 11, 2026, at approximately 12:07 a.m., City of Fairfax Police officers responded to the Wawa located at 9700 Fairfax Boulevard for the report of a subject armed with a knife.
Upon arrival, officers encountered an individual armed with a knife just inside the front door to the business. Officers gave commands to the individual to drop the knife, but the individual did not comply and exited the business with the knife in hand.
During the encounter, an officer discharged their department-issued firearm, striking the individual. Officers rendered medical aid at the scene until emergency medical personnel arrived.
The individual was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident.
In accordance with department policy, the involved officer has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
The Northern Virginia Critical Incident Response Team will be investigating this case. The identity of the individual will be released at a later date.
