Qualifications
- You must be registered to vote in Virginia
- You must not hold elected office and you must not be an employee or deputy of an elected official
- You must be willing to swear an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Virginia
- If you choose to work the polls on Election Day, you must be available to work for at least 14+ hours on Election Day
Duties
- Arrive at the polling place at 4:45 a.m. on Election Day or at the scheduled time for Early Voting and Central Absentee Precinct shifts.
- Set up voting equipment and signs
- Process and check in voters, issue ballots, and operate voting equipment
- Tally results, secure machines, and close the polling place
Officers Assignments
- Election officers may choose to work scheduled shifts during the Early Voting period at City Hall
- When possible, Officers are assigned to their home precinct based on their voter registration information on Election Day
Training
- Training is mandatory for all officers before every election
- Training sessions usually last between 1-2 hours
Compensation (if desired)
- Chief Officer: $350
- Deputy Chief Officer: $300
- Procedural Specialist: $300
- Electronic Pollbook Specialist: $250
- Regular Election Officer: $250
