When will Fairfax City Alert be used?
This system will be used to notify you about imminent threats to health and safety as well as informational notifications that affect your locations or work environments. Administrators will send notifications regarding flooding, gas leaks, police activity, government closures, city service reminders and more. Message frequency may vary.
How do I update my alerts?
Log in to your Everbridge Community Profile, select "Fairfax City Alert," then "My Subscriptions."
What if my phone number or email address changes?
The system is only as good as the information you provide. If your contact information changes, you can always visit your profile and update your information.
Can I provide only my phone number or e-mail address?
All subscriptions require a valid e-mail address and valid geographical (“street”) address. Telephone numbers are welcome, but not required.
Geographical addresses are required by the system. Some alerts, such as automated weather alerts, are sent based on geographical location of the situation. Subscribers may include more than one geographical address (such as work, school, daycare, etc.), but at least one must be included.
When will voice messages be sent?
The city will send voice messages only under limited circumstances. If you include your phone number, please make sure to choose another form of communication as well (e-mail or text) so you receive all messages for which you have subscribed.
How do I opt out from text notifications?
You can text STOP to an Everbridge notification. The system will prevent all future text notifications to your device. In order to resume text notifications, text RESUME to 89361 within 30 days. After 30 days, your phone number will be removed from your account. You will still continue to receive any notifications to other delivery methods, but you will not receive any notifications to the number you texted STOP from, including emergency notifications from Fairfax City Alert.
Are text messages from Fairfax City Alert free?
Signing up for text message alerts is free, but your mobile carrier’s message and data rates may apply. Please check with your mobile phone carrier for details.
Will my contact information be shared with others?
No. The information that you provide will be used only for this organization for notification purposes. We will not give or sell your contact or location information to any vendor or other organization.
What are automated weather alerts?
Automated Severe Weather Alerts come directly from the National Weather Service via the Everbridge platform, which enables you to select the types of weather alerts you wish to receive.
By opting in to this feature, you will receive weather alerts that are geographically based for any location that you have listed in your profile. You will be able to choose hours when you do not wish to receive these alerts. The geographic boundary for all Automated Weather Alerts is limited to a 75-mile radius from McLean, Virginia.
To receive weather alerts, sign up for the alert category titled “Weather Alerts" and expand the category to select specific types of weather alerts you wish to receive.
Is there an app for Fairfax City Alerts?
There is a free app for iPhone and Android users. Search for Everbridge in the Apple Store or Google Play.
I no longer want to receive alerts. How do I remove my account?
Under the "My Profile" section, there is a "Delete My Account" button. Once you click this button, your account and data will be deleted from our system.
Who can I contact for help?
For support, please email CityAlert@fairfaxva.gov. Text HELP to an Everbridge notification to reach out to Everbridge.
