Invasive Vine Removal at Historic Blenheim

Next date: Saturday, April 04, 2026 | 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Green trees and grass at Historic Blenheim

Join the Urban Forestry Stewardship Coordinator for a community invasive removal workday at Historic Blenheim (3610 Blenheim Blvd).

Reserve Your Volunteer Spot

Historic Blenheim is home to dozens of beautiful, mature trees that can provide insight into the past. Volunteers will learn how to identify and remove invasive vines, particularly English ivy, to help preserve the scenic nature of Historic Blenheim by protecting the long-term health of its tree canopy.

The city will provide tools, gloves, and safety glasses. Volunteers may also bring their own hand saws, pruners, loppers, or gloves. No power tools or herbicides are allowed by volunteers. Additionally, no digging will take place as part of the invasive removal workday due to the historic nature and archaeological sensitivity of the site.

Event Registration

Advance registration is required through SignUpGenius: City of Fairfax: Invasive Plant Removal Workdays

Waivers must be completed for all volunteers, without exception. Volunteers under 18 years of age must have a parent or guardian sign their waiver to participate. Volunteers under 16 years of age must have a parent or guardian on-site to participate.

Waivers will be provided at the event. Completed waivers may also be emailed to the Stewardship Coordinator in advance.

Safety Information

City staff work to ensure volunteers have a safe and enjoyable experience by providing safety wear, proper instruction, water, snacks, first aid, and supervision at each event.

Because activities are off-trail and outdoors, volunteers should dress for the weather (including sunscreen) and wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes. Wearing long sleeves, long pants, and/or long socks as appropriate may help reduce the risk of poison ivy exposure and insect bites. Volunteers may wish to wear insect repellent to deter ticks and mosquitoes.

Activities can be adjusted to accommodate a wide range of ages and abilities. Please email the Stewardship Coordinator in advance of the event if you are seeking an ADA or language accommodation.

Visit the Civil War Interpretive Center

Stay after the event to visit the Civil War Interpretative Center, open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. A guided tour of Blenheim House will take place at 1 p.m. The house is ADA accessible on the first floor.
