Fairfax City builds and maintains public infrastructure in partnership with transportation engineering consultants and construction companies. These specialists help plan, design, and build roads, and other civil engineering projects that form the foundation for the city’s high quality of life. Contracts for these projects are highly competitive, and the city seeks to strengthen local and regional business participation in the procurement process.

Information and Networking Event

The professional transportation engineering community is invited to attend “Transportation Engineering Industry Day” from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, at WillowWood Plaza in Northfax. The event, sponsored by Fairfax City Economic Development, the Fairfax City Public Works Department, Fairfax City Office of Procurement Services, and the Virginia Department of Transportation, will be held in the first-floor conference room at 10300 Eaton Place, Fairfax. Free parking is available on-site, including valet parking.

Projects and Procurement

In the spirit of building strong business partnerships, the city’s procurement team will share guidance on how to submit a strong proposal, including key compliance requirements. Attendees will learn about the scope of services available and the city’s expectations for its partners. City staff will share lessons learned from previous contracts and gather feedback and suggestions from industry during a moderated session. Additionally, prime consultants and subcontractors will have an opportunity to network and explore creating teams to respond to future requests for projects.

Innovation Pitch Showcase

The Industry Day event will feature an opportunity for attendees to display thought leadership around emerging ideas for infrastructure delivery and city services.  Five presenters will be selected to deliver five-minute presentations highlighting innovative tools, technologies, and approaches that could improve the city’s transportation projects, from concept to delivery. (This session is not part of any active procurement evaluation and will not influence RFP outcomes.) Representatives from Fairfax City Economic Development will describe the city’s growing innovation ecosystem and how attendees can participate.
