Back-to-School Safety Initiative

CITY OF FAIRFAX — School is back in session beginning Monday, August 18! The first few weeks of the year can be especially busy with heavier traffic, school buses, and children walking and biking near our schools.

To ensure a safe and smooth start to the year, the City of Fairfax Police Department will have officers assigned to every school during arrival and dismissal throughout the first week. This effort is part of a safety initiative led by our Community Services Division, and officers will be focusing on:

  • Enhancing traffic and pedestrian safety in school zones
  • Assisting with traffic flow during arrival and dismissal
  • Engaging with students, parents, and staff to promote school safety awareness
  • Addressing any issues or concern that arise at each school site

The department is committed to helping students, families, and schools begin the year safely. With everyone working together, we can give our students a positive start to the school year.

For questions or concerns, please contact: Allison Goldberg, Public Information Office, 703-273-2889 or police.information@fairfaxva.gov.
