Project ChildSafe (Firearm Safety Kits Available)

CITY OF FAIRFAX — The Police Department has partnered with Project ChildSafe, a national firearms safety education program that promotes responsible firearms ownership and secure storage.

Through grant funding, the department has received an initial supply of 100 firearm safety kits, each containing a cable-style gun lock and educational materials.  City of Fairfax residents may obtain a kit at the Police Department between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., while supplies last.

This initiative also supports public awareness of Virginia’s recent secure firearms storage law, Virginia Code 18.2-308.7:1., which requires firearms to be securely stored in circumstances where minors or individuals prohibited from possessing firearms may have access.

Project ChildSafe reflects our commitment to responsible firearms ownership and community safety by encouraging safe firearms storage and providing residents with practical resources to help protect their families.  Additional firearms safety and secure storage information is available at the Project ChildSafe website.
