Snow is in the forecast for Fairfax City. Here's what you need to know about city plowing operations, protecting your pipes, parking, and staying safe before, during, and after the storm.
The city of Fairfax has awarded a $1.73 million construction contract to Virginia Paving for roadbed reconstruction and paving of Fairfax Boulevard between Draper Drive and Fairfax Circle.
The project will start in March 2026 and is expected to continue through July 2026.
The pavement in the right lane of eastbound Fairfax Boulevard is cracking and deteriorating due to soft base materials under the roadway. Roadbed reconstruction is a process where the base soils are excavated and replaced with a stable compacted stone material. This provides a solid foundation for the pavement and will prevent premature deterioration.
All six lanes of Fairfax Boulevard will be repaved after the roadbed reconstruction is complete.

Construction – March 2026
Roadbed reconstruction begins. Weekend lane closures expected.
Completion Estimate: July 2026
Roadbed reconstruction requires deeper excavation and more time than road surface paving, so lane closures for extended durations will be necessary. Motorists can expect continuous weekend lane closures from Friday evening to Monday morning for roadbed reconstruction in the right lane of eastbound Fairfax Boulevard.
More specific information on lane closures will be provided as we get closer to construction.
