This trail was formerly known as the George Snyder Trail Extension

Current Status: Feasibility Study underway to evaluate proposed alignment modification along Draper Drive. The initial project was intended to connect Wilcoxon Trail to George Snyder Trail (GST). In light of GST cancellation, a new alignment along Draper Drive to connect to Draper Drive Park is being evaluated. See May 2026 presentation to City Council for more information.

Filling the Gap

The city has developed a conceptual design for a pedestrian/bicycle connection between the Wilcoxon Trail and Draper Drive Park. This connection will utilize Fairfax Boulevard and Draper Drive. Details about the type of facility and exact alignment are currently being evaluated.

Two-Year Transportation Program

This project was initially called the George Snyder Trail Extension and was included in the Fiscal Year 2022-2023 Two Year Transportation Program adopted by the Fairfax City Council on June 22, 2021. The city subsequently developed a concept plan and applied for funding for this project, which would have connected the Wilcoxon Trail to the George Snyder Trail project along Fairfax Blvd. The project was awarded VDOT Smart Scale Funding. In light of the cancellation of the George Snyder Trail project, the city is now evaluating an alignment modification that will instead connect the Wilcoxon Trail to Draper Drive Park.
