Reserve Your Volunteer Spot

Join the Urban Forestry Stewardship Coordinator for a community invasive removal workday at Fairfax City Hall (10455 Armstrong Street).

Volunteers will help to remove invasive vines from trees and clean up landscaping areas near the parking lot and Community Garden. The city will provide tools, gloves, and safety glasses. Volunteers may also bring their own shovel, hand saw, pruners, or gloves. No power tools or herbicides are allowed.

Free parking is available at City Hall. Volunteers should park in the upper lot near Chain Bridge Rd and meet by the Community Garden. City Hall is accessible by CUE Bus, Mason Shuttle, and Metrobus, and is within walking/biking distance of the George Mason University campus.

Waivers must be completed for all volunteers, without exception. Volunteers under 18 years of age must have a parent or guardian sign their waiver to participate. Volunteers under 16 years of age must have a parent or guardian on-site to participate.

Waivers will be provided at the event. Completed waivers may also be emailed to the Stewardship Coordinator in advance.

Safety information

City staff work to ensure volunteers have a safe and enjoyable experience by providing safety wear, proper instruction, water, snacks, first aid, and supervision at each event.

Because activities are off-trail and outdoors, volunteers should dress for the weather (including sunscreen) and wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes. Wearing long sleeves, long pants, and/or long socks as appropriate may help reduce the risk of poison ivy exposure and insect bites. Volunteers may wish to wear insect repellent to deter ticks and mosquitoes.

Activities can be adjusted to accommodate a wide range of ages and abilities. Please email the Stewardship Coordinator in advance of the event if you are seeking an ADA or language accommodation.
