Reserve Your Volunteer Spot
Join the Urban Forestry Stewardship Coordinator for a Forest Rescue at Van Dyck Park (3702 Blenheim Blvd) on Saturday, August 2, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. near the lower pavilion.
Volunteers will help to remove invasive plants, including bush honeysuckle and English ivy. Tools, gloves, and safety glasses are provided by the city, but volunteers may also bring their own shovel, hand saw, pruners, and gloves. No power tools or herbicides are allowed. Volunteers are encouraged to bring a water bottle and a snack for breaks; water and snacks are also provided by the city.
Activities can be adjusted to accommodate a wide range of ages and abilities. Please email the Stewardship Coordinator in advance of the event if you are seeking an ADA or language accommodation.
Safety information
City staff work to ensure volunteers have a safe and comfortable experience by providing safety wear, proper instruction, water, snacks, first aid, and supervision at each event.
Because activities are off-trail and outdoors, volunteers should dress for the weather (including sunscreen) and wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes. Wearing long sleeves, long pants, and/or long socks as appropriate may help to reduce the risk of poison ivy exposure and insect bites. Volunteers may wish to wear insect repellent.
Waivers are provided at each event and must be completed for all volunteers, without exception. Volunteers under 18 years of age require a parent or guardian's signature on their waiver to participate. Volunteers under 16 years of age require a parent or guardian to be on-site to participate. Completed waivers may be emailed to the Stewardship Coordinator in advance of the event.
