Join the Urban Forestry Stewardship Coordinator for a special Forest Rescue at Van Dyck Park (3702 Blenheim Blvd) in collaboration with the Fall Community Cleanup.

Work will take place along the trail near the stream, parallel to University Dr, from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday, October 26.

Volunteers will help to remove invasive plants, including bush honeysuckle and English ivy. The city will provide tools, gloves, and safety glasses. Volunteers may also bring their own shovel, hand saw, pruners, and gloves. No power tools or herbicides are allowed.

Activities can be adjusted to accommodate a wide range of ages and abilities. Please email the Stewardship Coordinator in advance of the event if you are seeking an ADA or language accommodation.

Event registration

Registration is required through the Fall Community Cleanup registration page: Community Cleanup Registration

Volunteers should check in at the volunteer "pit stop" located in the Van Dyck Park pavilion near the parking lot. From there, volunteers will receive directions to proceed to the worksite, where they will receive further instructions from the Stewardship Coordinator.

Waivers must be completed for all volunteers, without exception. Volunteers under 18 years of age require a parent or guardian's signature on their waiver to participate. Volunteers under 16 years of age require a parent or guardian to be on-site to participate. Completed waivers may be emailed to the Stewardship Coordinator in advance of the event.

This volunteer activity is eligible for Stormwater Utility Credit under the Trees, Litter, & Creeks (TLC) Community Stewardship Program.

Safety information

City staff work to ensure volunteers have a safe and enjoyable experience by providing safety wear, proper instruction, water, snacks, first aid, and supervision at each event.

Because activities are off-trail and outdoors, volunteers should dress for the weather (including sunscreen) and wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes. Wearing long sleeves, long pants, and/or long socks as appropriate may help to reduce the risk of poison ivy exposure and insect bites. Volunteers may wish to wear insect repellent to deter ticks and mosquitoes.
