Policies & Information

Inclement Weather

The Young at Heart Senior Center does not follow Fairfax County Public Schools closings. Adult classes and gym rentals at other city facilities may follow FCPS closings, but the Senior Center operates on its own schedule.

When a closure is necessary, the Senior Center receives a mandate from City Hall. Staff will then notify members via:

Stay Informed

There are several ways to keep up with Senior Center news, events and schedule changes:

  • Monthly calendar and bulletin boards — posted inside the center and updated regularly by staff
  • Email and text alerts — make sure the center has your current contact information so you receive updates; emails come from seniorcenter@fairfaxva.gov or staff addresses ending in @fairfaxva.gov
  • Young at Heart Newsletter — published seasonally; available at the center and online
  • Parks & Rec Connected Magazine — full program and trip details published each season; available at the center and online at fairfaxva.gov/parksrec

Looking for support to stay independent at home? Fairfax Village in the City is a separate city-supported program for residents 55 and older.

Senior Center Advisory Council

The Senior Center Advisory Council is made up of volunteers who work with staff to enhance the programs and activities of the Fairfax City Senior Center. Elections are held annually in September. Meetings are open to all Senior Center members.
