Pizza Customers Receive Free Smoke Alarm Inspections on Oct. 5

On Oct. 5, Domino’s Pizza orders in Fairfax City will come with a side of safety.
Fairfax City customers who place orders from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 5 with Domino’s Pizza at 10895 Main St. can receive special service with their delivery: a free smoke alarm check in their home and, if needed, service or replacement of non-working devices. Participation is voluntary, and the inspection occurs after the pizza has been delivered.
In recognition of Fire Prevention Week, the City of Fairfax Fire Department is teaming up with Domino’s and the National Fire Protection Association to ensure that smoke alarms, the first line of defense in home fires, are in proper working order. After the pizza is delivered, fire department personnel will arrive in a fire truck to test the home’s smoke alarms and replace any nonworking units.
Crews will also explain another free service: Community Connect. This voluntary program allows residents and business owners to securely share information about their property, people, and pets to help first responders during an emergency. Powered by First Due, information entered into Community Connect is accessible only to fire and police personnel should an emergency require service.
Acting Fire Chief Shawn Dunstan said, “Our goal is to make sure every member of our community has the tools and resources to protect themselves, their families, and their property. Working smoke alarms are one of the simplest and most effective ways to provide an early warning and help keep people safe when a fire occurs.”
Pizza customers will be notified when the fire truck arrives and may opt out of the visit. “We hope every customer takes this opportunity to protect themselves and their families,” Dunstan said. “In only a few minutes, we can make sure their smoke alarms are working properly, provide important fire-safety information, and help give the peace of mind that comes with knowing they are better prepared.”
