How to Claim Your Free Helmet

  • Download the app.
  • Purchase a monthly or annual membership.
  • Stop by the Public Works office in City Hall (Room 200, 10455 Armstrong Street) during business hours to confirm your membership and pick up your helmet. Find My Size
  • You must be a city resident to qualify.
  • Call 703-385-7810 or email transportation@fairfaxva.gov with questions.

Program Overview

Capital Bikeshare is the region's bikeshare program, with more than 600 stations throughout the Washington metropolitan area. Pick up a bike in any part of the region and return it to any station. You can also find e-bikes at stations or on nearby racks. Fairfax City joined the system in 2023 with stations in Old Town Fairfax and Fairfax Circle, enhancing access between George Mason University and the Vienna Metro.

Fairfax City Program Development

The City of Fairfax's 2035 Comprehensive Plan and Bike Fairfax City Plan identified bikeshare as a priority.

Station locations were selected based on access to destinations, proximity to transit and trails, solar power needs, and public input. Input from City Council also guided final decisions.

  1. Sign in to the Capital Bikeshare or Lyft App*
  2. Click the Menu (top left)
  3. Select "Ride plans"
  4. Choose Annual Membership
  5. Click "Enter promo code"
  6. Apply the code in the popup

*If you have a Lyft account, use the same login.

Membership Promo Code – Online

  1. Go to capitalbikeshare.com and log in or sign up
  2. Click "Join and save" under Annual Membership
  3. Enter or select a payment method for usage fees
  4. Click "Enter promo"
  5. Enter your code in the popup and submit
  6. Once verified, finish checkout at the discounted price

Single Ride Coupon Code – App Only

  1. Sign in to the Capital Bikeshare or Lyft App
  2. Open the Menu
  3. Select "Rewards"
  4. Click "Add promo"
  5. Enter your code in the popup
  6. Discount will be applied
