Fairfax City Council Appoints Daniel Alexander as City Manager

At its Nov. 18 meeting, and following a national search, the Fairfax City Council introduced Daniel C. Alexander as the new city manager. Mr. Alexander currently serves as a deputy county executive in Prince William County, Virginia, where he has overseen a portfolio of 15 public safety and community services agencies since February 2022. His employment with Fairfax City will begin Jan. 5, 2026.

Fairfax City Expands Trash and Recycling Cart Rollout

Fairfax City will roll out new standard 64-gallon trash and recycling carts in January 2026, with options for 32-gallon carts, or opting out altogether. The carts aim to improve safety, efficiency, and reduce litter. Residents must submit size changes or opt-out requests by Nov. 3 at fairfaxva.gov/resolve, or they will receive the standard carts. A take-back program for old containers will follow.
